Skinning Problem :( and other Q's

Right now i'm on the free 14day trial, but i plan on buying the game when it's over. But no matter what i seem to skin, i won't get any more skill in skinning. I'm stuck at 100.. and every animal i skin name is in green... and i can't find any other animals to get me over that 100 skill mark.

Also, in game, i can't yell, and i cant type using the /1 in front of my text, is this because I'm using the trial?

I'm a level 14 night elf rogue, with skinning and leatherworking as my proffesions. if that matters.
Thanks.

That is because you cannot level up beyond 100 in the trial. Get the retail version NOW. The month that comes with it gets tacked onto the 10 trial period irrespective of when you enter your retail key.

That is, you could enter the trial key on day 1 and the retail key day 2 (and probably almost straight after opening the trial account) and you get a total of 10 days + 1 month. That way you avoid the limitations of the trial but get the benefits of it.

I found that not being able to use the mail system or trade was a huge PITA and I decided to register my retail key early (about day 6) fully expecting to lose the last 4 days but I did not lose anything.

Trading makes a big difference. I upgraded a couple of days ago and I'm make gold for the first time, through the auction house. It also makes grinding and quests more interesting as you pick up stuff to sell.

On skinning, that is really easy to level up as it comes almost indirectly. Leatherworking on the other hand is hard work. What do I do with all this leather? Make countless pairs of boots, vest and tops that don't sell in the auction house? It makes levelling up a bit unrewarding.

Here are a couple of ideas. You could just take those items that won't sell on the AH and give them away in the newbie areas. They aren't great gear, but it's still better than what most players start out with and it gives you an opportunity to meet some new people and knowing that you helped them out a little bit.

Also...if you skill up by making green items, you could partner with an enchanter (or roll your own) and dis-enchant those items for the reagents. The really low level stuff won't give you much, but later on you will get better dusts and essences. And enchanting reagents do NOT cost any deposit to put on AH, so you can keep throwing them up there until they sell.

Another thing that most professions have is one (or two) items that are required for quests. For LW, there is a Hillman's cloak in South Shore. I remember making quite a few skill points and some extra coin just hanging around that area for a week while I was doing other quests. You can make countless circuits through the yeti cave skinning all the corpses that people are leaving then head back to town and make the cloaks they need for the quest.

Hope some of that helps. Just remember that if professions weren't a bit difficult to level up, then everyone would be doing it and there wouldn't be a lot of point to it.

Thanks Kodonn, I like the idea of giving stuff to newbies. I hadn't thought of that. I realise that I'll be able to make more varied and interesting stuff later.

I didn't mean to complain that it's difficult, even though I used the term 'hard work'. I was referring to the lack of motivation. You skin to make leather and because you've killed something anyway. You fish to feed yourself, your pet, and maybe sell some. But once you've kitted yourself out in leather there's nothing else to make and you're still on level 10 or something. Giving stuff to newbies is a good idea though. Thanks!
