Hi, I was recommended by a couple of people to try those two mods in place of gypsy which I've been using for a while. But the two mods seem to be very similar so would someone mind giving me more information about both and under which circumstance one would be used over the other?
Also my guild requires the ct_raid mod, and I was wondering if perl would be compatible with that, or would I have to get rid of perl and install ct_raid?
I don't know too much about mods so any info would be great, thank you

Well, I don't think XPerl and Perl Classic are similar. Although they are base on the same addon, Perl Classic is much lighter, but it's not so configurable as XPerl, which has some extra functions. But what Perl Classic does, it does pretty well.
I personally recommend Perl Classic because it's built to be lightweight, there are not too many functions, but the basics to play a great game are there, and that's enough for the majority.
And either Perl Classic or XPerl has a raid frame. Both are completely compatible with CT_RaidAssist (since they do completely different things), so you can use both.
I would say X-Perl instead of Classic. I tried both and i prefer the way X-Perl is set up. If Classic is still like when i first used it, you will need to get the extra module(Raid , pet frames)...thats one of the reasons i changed. But as Kamarladys said, there both good....it will come down to which will suit you more.
I always thought it would be more efficient if the author of Perl Classic put the other modules together with the zip file as load on demand. Simpler, but much easier.
Thank you for the reply guys, went with perl classic. And if anyone else would be able to reccomend further mods that go with it that would be great, from the post above i'm guessing perl classic would be one.
Perl Classic's slight performance enhancements might benefit slow machines, but the loss of features I find reduces both my raiding and PvP efficiency. I cannot comment on the difference in performance of the two mods as my Laptop which I play on is too fast for the difference to be detectable (and its not really that fast).
Currently, Perl Classic only has support for 16 debuffs out of the 40 possible (should change soon though), nor does it have support for Party and Target casting bars, something which X-Perl handles in a delightfull way (for me anyway).
Final point is of course how the mod is split into multiple pieces which have to be separately downloaded. I'm a bit confused as to why here; the author's explination in the FAQ doesn't seem sufficient.
Then there is however how the actual frames themselves look like. While similar, there are slight differences in their appearence and size. This however is a matter of taste and should be chosen depending on which you think you look better and how well they integrate with the rest of your User Interface.
