How to play?

I was wondering what is the best way to play a hunter in BG.. i normally us pet and try to range for as long as i can. but when i get in melee range i get owned. i am playing at lvl 14 right now just starting out. any suggestions on where to attack at and how to attack. stay with people or go out on my own. just some general info on how to play a hunter in BG would be great

Thanks SmokeThizzle

You are playing in WSG. As a non-twink hunter (and not even 19...) you will not be able to solo any of the twinks there. Your best bet is to stay at distance, find a player about to die, and unload. If you see the other teams flag carrier, use concussive shot to slow him down. If you are on defense (im not sure what level you get traps...) lay traps. It will break stealth of incoming rogues. If your teams flag carrier is heading by you, use concussive shot on the nearest enemy player.

basically, concussive shot it your friend and you should find somebody to use it on EVERY time it is available. Other than that, find players about to die, and help finish them off.

EDIT: You double posted! /sigh

I'll make it simple for you. Unless assigned to play defense, stay with the largest group of people on the field. Hunters do the most good bolstering the offense of a group. Stay back behind the warriors and rogues and hose stuff down. Protect your healers.

If you look around and you are farther forward than the rest of your group, BACK UP. :)

"you will not be able to solo any of the twinks there. "

Not strictly true, warriors and rogues are still easily kited at this level regardless of what gear you have. (Warriors dont have intercept yet, so as long as you get the first hit they cant charge you, and rogues dont have posions yet, so no chance of being slowed down with crippling either)

Firstly, if you dont know it already, learn to jump shot. To do this you need to make sure you are no longer using the WASD keys to move, but instead use the mouse, auto run and be able to turn quickly midjump fire a concussive/sting/arcane. They wont ever be able to get close to you. If they do get close to you, you still have wing clip to instantly get range again (make sure you dont get hamstringed)

Also, get 5 points in imp concussive shot..this is ESSENTIAL as it procs so often its unreal.

As you first exit the gates, the first thing you should always do is mark any twink rogues you see, maybe use the speed boost to get ahea of the pack and mark them before they get a chance to stealth. Another tip is to make a macro for /target <name of twink rogues> and keep spamming it to make sure you get them targetted and hunter marked asap. There's no vanish at this level, so unless the rogue twink has an intelligent priest who knows he can dispel it, that mark is staying on for good.

Another tip is always send your pet on any healers/casters...dont get into the habit of always sending to to your main target as its a waste, pets dont have dash at that level, so by the time he gets to your target hell probably already be dead. Far better that he starts wearing down your secondry target.

But what the poster above says about staying in the pack, always a good tip. Once a hunter gets mobbed, its over for him, especially is the mob is launching frostbolts and hamstringing.

Hope this helps.

Oh....and learn to use track humanoids...its invaluable in WSG. Even if you do suck at pvp you can still be useful simply by saying in /bg chat where the flag carrier is headed.

The split second you see the message 'annoying **** has captured your flag' you want to forget what you are doing and head back to your base asap. Turn on track humanoids and try and work out what exit he is taking. As soon as you know yell out (CAPS helps here especially if on alliance as people tend to ignore the BG chat) either RAMP/GY OR TUNNEL.

You are also essential for ending turtle games where the flag carrier is hiding in random ridiculously hard to find spot. Head up to there base and start scouting.

A hunter is probably one of the best classes for WSG, alongside druid (a big bag of HoT meat for flag running) as even if not twinked can still own if they play as a team and focus on the flag.

listen to stigg.

Help out where you can, and don't bite off more than you can chew. Trying to solo kite a 19 twink will get you killed. You won't be able to do enough damage to matter and eventually they will catch you or someone else will ruin the party and take you out while you are trying to kite.

Try to stick with a group and slow down anyone you can. Get a boar for you pet, since Charge is an awesome pet ability.

Hmm...I disagree....Ive played a rogue twink to exhalted with WSG and AB and met one or two non twink hunters who could kite perfectly, making it impossible for me to get close. Sure, they wont be able to do amazing dmg ranged....but stack that with the insane dmg that pets deal at that level and it adds up. Plus during kiting nearly all the damage is done via arcane shot serpent sting and the pet, so how much agility you have is kinda irrelevent. Unless you have + 30 spell dmg on weapon:) now that would be an interesting choice (as an experiment, I'm not suggested its better that + 25 agility).especially after they buffed dots.

I was a mostly pure agility twink however and only had 1k hp. Some rogues can have alot more and im sure it would be more troublesome, especially as the chances are you will have others after you aswell. But if you do find yourself one on one with a twink rogue, I recommend at least trying to kite them one on one. You have nothing to lose, and everything to gain......mainly it will be good kiting experience under pressure and will improve your gameplay.
