quest exp...when is it calculated?

I have tried to search for this but no luck...Hope this is the place to ask.

When you are doing a quest, is the exp for the quest calculated when you complete it or when you turn it in?

I have some uldaman quest that I completed when it was yellow but did not get to the correct place to turn in until I it was green.

Not knowing what I would get I have no way of knowing if I lost exp because of the time it took to turn in.

When you turn it in.

You get the xp when you turn it in, but you always get maximum xp, if the quest isn't grey :)

Diminshes according to difficulty something like 6000 for red, 4000 for yellow, 3200 for green, 350 for grey, roughly that kinda ratio.
