Out of interest....

Out of interest, what are all of your thoughts on ressurection in RP warcraft? Developed any particular reasons or explanations on why certain people can be brought back to life and why some can't?

The great catch-all, fate. Those who are destined for greater things will get some breaks from on high. Almost a literal deus ex machina, you might say.

A druid or shaman doesn't go around rezzing all the wildlife because it would disturb nature; a priest or paladin doesn't bother because there are too many allies in peril already and it's impractical to save them all. As for the storyline humanoid NPCs that croak, you can always use the excuse that whatever killed them was more powerful than the party's meager ability could counteract.

Of course if you start talking about more technical resurrection barriers you've got to be a bit more clever.

A simple, cheesy explanation:

Forget Highlander II --- Azeroth is the REAL world the immortals come from LOL

I really have problems with that.

There are several 100.000's of player characters and NPC's running around in the world capable of ressurecting a meager level 1 but lord Anduin Lothar died in combat and noone cared to resurect him???

Several great heroes on both alliance and horde sides but nobody ressurects them???

You could also look at it that it was just their time to go. That their spirit wearied of the world, and would not return, to make way for new heroes to stand up and take their place.

Fate weaves an intricate, complex tapestry.

Perhaps the body was too badly damage to accept the spirit back within it.

Perhaps the ones you can resurrect are only Mostly Dead.

Another thing to consider is time. Resurrecting those who have been dead for a long time might have quite catastrophic effects on both the world and especially themselves.
You could imagine that people can't just resurrect anybody, that they have to have some kind of a connection to the person they want to bring back. Maybe that they have to really love/hate them, or just simply at least know their name and who they were, or whatever, you name it.
You could either have it depend completely on the previous, with no "higher force" involved, or you could imagine that whoever wishes to resurrect someone must 'request' it from the mentioned 'higher force', whether it be a simple "spirit healer", or something much more formidable. This again, gives more choices and ways to restrict resurrection.
Perhaps this higher force thinks that who you are trying to resurrect has done too many bad deeds to be granted another life, or perhaps it specifically wants to give 'em a chance to fix their mistake. Or if the person was a less sinister one, you could just say that he has already done what he was supposed to and it's now his time to rest.

Or you could just combine everything here to make up a solid reason for resurrection or being unable to resurrect.
In the end, there are almost limitless possibilities to handle it. It's just the audience and yourself who decides whether it seems appropriate.

Sometimes resurrection doesn't work. People don't know why, when or how. One of the Great Mysteries of Azeroth many a Priest has studied, yet none have brought a sufficient answer to.

*points at theories above as works from the aformentionned priests*

Just thought of something...you could include special items/locations for requirements to resurrection. Not only do druids use different seeds to resurrect people in WoW, in the warcraft 3 campaign Arthas had to invade Silvermoon to bring back Kel'Thuzad with the sunwell's power, although that was about undeath/reanimation rather than actual resurrection.
