Leveling questions

I gained 16 levels in 3 days which I thought was pretty good, but someone told me he can get to level 20's in one day. So I'm curious how? Did he have someone in a party at a high level take him through places to level up fast? He did say something about someone taking him through some blue armor place or where to get blue armor.

I have a friend whos a level 67, if he takes me through deadmines a couple times would I be able to level up faster? Since I am in a party with him, we share coins and XP right?

it really depends. there are several strategies to fast leveling. but if you're solo and you just want to get to level 60 or 70 super fast, most people use some sort of leveling guide. they basically tell you where to go, what quests to get, how to finish them. some even come with maps or what not. I think if you stick to it, they claim 60 in under 5 days played or something like that. just depends on how much time you use towards things like leveling professions or socializing. i'm just on my first main, so i waste a TON of time chatting with guild mates, running instances or helping lower level guildies. it's not a race :)

There is a strategy called "tagging". I am not too clear on the particulars of it, but that is one way. Bear in mind though that any experience gained from just grouping with a very high level friend will be split disproportionately between the two of you. You will get much less than you would if you had grouped with someone who was of the level recommended for that instance.

I'd personally recommend just playing the game and having fun. Do it at your pace and don't worry about the other people. If they want to rush for whatever reason - that's their game.

Edit:
Have a look here.

As a first time player of WoW, you will level much slower than a player who has 10 alts. They know exactly where to go, what to do, which quests are simple enough, etc.

As Tanitha mentioned, having a high level player kill a mob after you "tagged" it will lower your xp from that mob. That being said....if you can tag mobs fast enough and have them kill them all really quick, then yes...you will level quickly. (the first level 70 did eactly that). I was having fun doing that last night on my 22 hunter. I would kite level 39 gorillas in STV to the guards and let them kill it. Although it was not a good xp/hr method....i was just testing out my kiting abilities.

Having a high level player run you through instances (like deadmines) COULD be a good idea. I can clear tonsof instances with my mage in about 20 minutes....and THAT nets players I run through a HUGE amount of XP. And they get better gear, which means they can level up quicker on their own.

Most players prefer grinding quests (quests which are "Kill 10 mobs") which not only net the highest xp./hr (grinding method), but you also gain a good amount of xp from turning int he quests.

BUT, this is your first character. Learn to play it, learn the zones, learn the quest lines, etc.....so next time you want to level a character you don't have to think twice about where to go or what to do.

Well, one thing that might be going on is that you are talking about real life time, and other guys are talking about played time.

3 days played is 72 hours....of played.....Whereas, 3 days RL is more often closer to 10-20 hours.

As others say, do what is fun!

Don't compare yourself to others.

I've read post from people who just sped their way up to higher levels, then said that they felt they missed a lot of the game by doing it. I'm also itching to be level 40/50/60, etc., but I'm having a good time slowly getting there, and I won't feel like I missed a thing.

Exactly. My first 60 got there in like, 20 days /played (and over the course of a year). I spent so much time going around and exploring, doing quests that I shouldn't have done, sitting around in ORG talking away, doing BG's, etc. I am doing the same thing on my first alliance toon (not so much esxploring....but I am all across the map). When I got to 60, I felt as if I knew more than a ton of 60s that got there in 10 days /played. Now that I have a few 60s, I don't really care too much about anything BUT getting up in level. The only thing I really take an interest in anymore is the Class specific quests.

GO check out Osiris guide. its outdated, but it will give you a good idea of what you should be doing.
