do i need all the patches that have been realeased

i am new to world of warcraft and i am wondering if i need all the patches that have been realeased or just the latest one. if i dont need all of them is it still a good idea to download them all.

You need the most up to date patch. They contain a backlog of what came before, thus you miss no data.

Well, technically he would need the latest master patch as opposed to the last patch which was just an incremental patch. Then again, the next master patch is relatively around the corner, course that could still mean several weeks off, knowing Blizzard.

Ok, so unless you have also acquired the TBC expansion then this is the route you need to follow.

1.12.0 = Master patch
1.12.X to 2.0.1 = Incremental
2.0.x to 2.0.3 = Incremental
2.0.3 to 2.0.12 = incremental

Ok, if you have TBC (tbc = a master patch and puts you at 2.0.0) installed, then it becomes.
2.0.x to 2.0.3 = Incremental
2.0.3 to 2.0.12 = Incremental


Mind you, this is the US route. The EU route has a lot more incrementals namely.

WoW proper:
1.12.0
1.12.X to 2.0.1
2.0.X to 2.0.3
2.0.3 to 2.0.7
2.0.7 to 2.0.8
2.0.8 to 2.0.10
2.0.10 to 2.0.12

TBC:
2.0.X to 2.0.3
2.0.3 to 2.0.7
2.0.7 to 2.0.8
2.0.8 to 2.0.10
2.0.10 to 2.0.12
