Copying Wow Folder 4-4-09

Ok, Im looking to get into WoW again, i have the original wow game and key, and BC is tied to my account, i then bought wotlk when all the patches were complete. As everyone else i hate downloading patches, so i thought i could copy my friends WoW folder who has a different account and computer and lives in adifferent suburb, he has WoW/Bc/wotlk installed. So if i copied his folder and logged into my account and computer what would happen?

would i have wotlk installed to my account?
Would wotlk be installed on my computer but i have to use the cd key i bought to validate it?
would it stuff up my friends account in anyway?
could we log on to each others accounts at the same time?

if there is anything else could you please tell me.

p.s if you dont no and your guessing please dont not answer

thanks in advance

You would have WOTLK client on your computer.

You would have client installed, but you would have to upgrade your account to be able to go to northrend, create Dk or level past 70.

No.

You can log to any accounts if you know the login/password.
You cannot login to the same account on multiple machines at the same time.

You would also have addons your friend installed - if you want to get rid of them delete content of Interface folder.

You cannot move folders from MAC to PC and vice versa.

You can only use a cd key once to validate one account. Your account resides on Blizz's server and is not attached to any specific pc or installation. When you try to log in to the gameserver the game checks that you have all the expansions installed that your account is validated for. You can have more expansions, but not less.

Once these conditions are in order ANY wow account can log into ANY wow installation.

In fact I currently have wow installed on:
- my home pc
- my home laptop
- my work laptop
- my parents in laws pc

my wife has an account with TBC, I have one with TBC and WotLK.
we can both play on any one of those computers with our own account. Blizzard is perfectly fine with this.

alexscurr, what is the file you want to copy to your computer, from your friend's? I would like to do the same thing, and could you tell me the size of the file?

The entire wow client (including wotlk files, minus the patches that the downloader also puts there) takes about 12GB. Best copy it by taking your pc over there or using an external HD of sorts...

I wouldn't recommend even trying it. As triplex said, it's impossible for two WoW clients to be logged into the same account at the same time, but even if you decide to swap accounts mid play session or something, you could get in trouble with Blizzard for account sharing. I know someone who had their account taken away because he let his friend use his account. Blizzard knew this because he "logged in" at a different location (a few miles away) minutes after being logged on somewhere else.

But the WoW files are totally safe to copy over, it won't give you access to his account at all. The login details aren't stored on your computer.
