We've had quite a few emails on EU realm* server issues over the past week and due to this I thought we should highlight the problem here. Since Blizzard underwent 'hardware upgrades' on some of the EU servers such as Runetotem, the latency has not been good. Information has been coming in from Blizzard on their boards but it has been a little sketchy as to what the problem actually is which is frustrating players. Telia routing could be to blame but it is odd that these problems started to appear just after upgrades were applied. We hope this gets resolved sharpish, many players are unable to undertake instances due to the problem and there are reports of server communities dieing are also starting to appear. Come on Blizz, let's get it sorted once and for all!

Thanks Magnesium*on Runetotem and everyone who mailed in feeling rather frustrated.

Yeah...we were dropping like flies with DCs yesterday in BWL....and so did other raidgroups. Things were resheduled to Onyxia (where we get Deep Breaths without her emote now) ....grrrrrr.
If the game was only half as good as it is, people would just quit....
Turalyon is affected by this as well, and its extremely frustrating for raiding guilds. Normal outdoor play is managable, but raidinstances are a pain in the proverbial body part. Especially BWL is bad. Last week we didn't get anything done there at all (normally we clear the whole thing), cause all of our tanks would disconnect at least once during the razorgore fight, which made the encounter impossible. And not just once, no, on several nights. Some people couldn't stay online in BWL for more than a minute or so. Strangely enough, AQ40 was better (though not perfect either).
I sincerly hope it's better after the maintainance, but the fact that our MC run yesterday had a host of disconnects as well doesnt get one's hopes up. It did became better over time though, but Blizzard can't expect us to start raiding at 10 PM....
The problems we seem to be experiencing are not just to do with individual reams in Europe but an entire Battlegroup cluster, Battlegroup 3, is broken.
There may be other Realms with similar problems but the one causing the most concern is BG3.
Now I would love to be able to link to the pages in the Official Forums but I can't because I get continual timeouts or other error messages when trying to contact the forums.... What a wonderful coincidence.
Whatever, Battlegroup 3 is, since the introduction of Patch 1.12 and the new Hardware, experiencing severe problems with lag spikes, disconnects and logins/retrieving character list delays.
This is especially prevalent when people try to go on Raids, the bigger the Raid the worse things become. There is also some evidence to suggest that the more frequented Raid instances are also the worst hit so moving from one instance, say BWL, to another, say MC, is not going to help if everyone else has the same bright idea. Whatever.
Blizzard have not been able to provide, as yet, any reassurances that they know what the problem is or when they are going to have it fixed. They have simply acknowledged that they know about the problem and that they are working on it.
The extent of their service runs to the usual, template, requests to send tracert logs to their technical service dept, either through the forums (currently dead) or via email (most likely clogged). This is of absolutely no use whatsoever, there is absolutely no correlation between the problems with Battlegroup 3 and the route over the internet there. I have done tracert to other servers in different BG clusters and they all look roughly the same. The current theory is that there is a problem with return packets being lost, our tracert logs will not show any of that because we cannot get deep enough into the Telia network. Also a packet lost is a packet lost, tracert does not provide any information as to whether or not the ping or its ack packet was lost.
So much for the technical disasters. These are only important because they are the cause of a situation which is fast becoming intolerable for those suffering it.
Many guilds have been losing days of raiding and PvP.
Their members are starting to ask questions about whether or not they should simply cough up the Paid Transfer Fee and move to a server in a different Battlegroup.
A feeling of general hopeless and laissez-faire is descending on players, why bother turning up when you only spend an evening relogging or wiping...
Of course any mass migration may cause the very breakdown in their new Battleground that they are trying to flee from in Battleground 3. So moving is simply too risky to seriously consider and why should people have to pay extra in order to guarantee themselves a service they already pay enough for.
So what can we do about this?
In a word, nothing.
We can follow their advice about deleting directories and mods, posting tracert logs. We can post about the problems but those Threads invariably get locked and/or deleted.
We can threaten to withdraw our subscription. They don't really care.
Blizzard are already losing players because of this and other problems, they are not going to move any faster.
Nothing and I mean nothing that we try is going to have any positive effect on the resolution of this. We are completely at the mercy of Blizzard and Telia here.
The situation in Europe, in particular with Battlegroup 3, is indicative of Blizzard's inability to provide us with both a reasonable standard of service and a Customer Care system which shows it does. There hasn't even been any kind of hint that those affected will be getting free days. Mind you, that would not be a trivial sum of money, currently Battlegroup 3 has been crippled for 9 days now and there is no end in sight.
I can only urge those of us who have been affected by this blight to demonstrate patience, keep the faith and never give up hope that things get sorted out soon. I for one feel that I have little other choice in the matter.
as krollin stated its is ALL the realms connected in Battlegroup 3.
On my server Ravencrest - we have allready seen the 6-7 of the servers top10 guilds disband or migrate to another server - we were one of the servers with the most active and competitive raiding communties. now we're left with allmost nothing left.
I must say we at EU-Argent Dawn don't have anything. Although I had a lot of lag in the bg's yesterday(enough to make me afk out), outside and in instances no problems.
Sympathies, if I still played my alliance toons in BG3, I'd be mighty upset, especially if I raided.
As it is, it's looking increasingly likely that I and some of the old-skool raid group founders will be using PCT to set up another raid group on another server anyway. My old server in BG3 is just too stuffed with twinks, botters, morons and spammers- isn't any fun for day-to-day play even outside of raiding. I know that a lot of the old raid groups (the ones which didn't break up over the last few months) are being hit very hard by the state of the networks, and it's just another pressure which is forcing the longer-serving and most valuable players to either leave the game or "go casual". It's just not worth it, as on top of all the usual political guild *****ing, you have the problems of trying to lead a raid when you just don't know if any useful endgame encounters will be viable. You just try telling a decent raiding outfit that your only option for the evening is Molten Core, see how many stick around...
Anyway, my BG6 PvP server is doing ok, more lag than usual, and into the yellow for many players on a regular basis, but the world servers are still working. Raiding guilds are a little whiney, but then they always are, but the server seems to be getting off lightly.
Of course, the BGs are horrendously b0rked on wednesday, thursday and often friday- servers dying and the "Transfer failed- instance not found" message popping up, confusing the hell out of the client which won't let you requeue, getting stuck in BGs(*), sometimes unable to queue, or staying in the queue indefinately along with half the server- the usual stuff. It seems minor but when you're trying to up rep or honour and have set yourself silly little targets, it certainly puts a crimp in your style! It has got to the point where I essentially set my honour targets for how much play time I can squeeze in on the 4-5 days when the servers work. Pretty shoddy, 30% of the service going missing on a regular basis like that.
* If you ever get stuck in a BG after the match ends, relogging doesn't help, and in some cases seems to make your honour tokens vanish. Don't bother trying to get a GM to fix that, btw, they will just tell you to delete WDB/WTF.. The best way (assuming your worldserver hasn't just died) to get back is to /afk. This often kicks you right out, but without the deserter debuff, handily enough. Too much fiddling when attempting BG ingress/egress when things are being screwy will give you this debuff unfairly, which is a pain when you want to jump right back in before all those pots, buffs and the like wear off. Sooo, in summary, try a quick /afk- hope this helps someone.
