Background
Between 20th September and 4th October, Brewfest is celebrated by both the Alliance and Horde. The celebrations focus around Beer, Pretzels, Beer, Cheese and Beer.
Three Breweries take part in the festivities, Thunderbrew, Barleybrew and the Ogres. These friendly rivals gather outside the major cities as they try to outdo each other by selling the most of their wares to the adventurers as they come and go.
Locations
The main events take place at Ironforge and Orgrimmar, but Beer Gardens are set up outside of all other major cities such as Stormwind, Undercity, Darnassus, Silvermoon City, The Exodar and Thunder Bluff.
Activities
As you join the masses already attending Brewfest, you will notice big barrels of complementary beer for you to enjoy around the camp. There is an unending amount of free refills, so don't skimp on the servings!
There are several quests to do in order to gain yourself [Unknown Item: Brewfest Prize Ticket]s, which you can redeem for some cool items, as listed below.
Brewfest Enthusiast Buff
At 6am and 6pm server time, NPCs arrive at the Ironforge and Orgrimmar Brewfest sites to "Tap the Keg", which gives a buff to everyone in the area that boosts experience earned by 10% for 2 hours, but quest wisely - this very nice buff does not last through death!
The horde NPC is Troll Vol'jin, the Alliance "tapper" is High Tinker Mekkatorque.
Quests
As well as the tremendous quantity of refreshments, there are plenty of things to see and do at the Brewfest locations. Here is a full list of Brewfest Quests, but below is a run down of the main ones, including the quests that reward [Unknown Item: Brewfest Prize Ticket]:
Turning in your [Unknown Item: Brewfest Stein Voucher] will reward you with a [Unknown Item: Yellow Brewfest Stein], which can be refilled from the various large beer kegs around the Brewfest Festival site.
Spread the Word, Barking Quests
You will have the opportunity to help the breweries out, by advertising who has the best brew. You will receive a Ram to speed things up a bit, as you race round informing Ironforge or Orgrimmar of who's beer is best.
You may choose one factions to "Bark" for: or for Horde, and or for Alliance. Once the timer has started, you must race into either Ironforge or Orgrimmar to the 4 Brewfest flags and promote your chosen Brewery within 4 minutes! You may only complete this quest once each day.
Show off your riding skills by handling one of the Brewfest Rams! Speak to , or to prove your skill, and earn yourself some [Unknown Item: Brewfest Prize Ticket]s.
The aim of the quest is to keep the Ram at each of the 3 different speeds (Trot, Canter and Gallop) for 8 seconds, within the 4 minute time slot. You can change the speed of the ram by clicking the [Unknown Item: Ram Racing Reins]. However, if you make him run too fast for too long, the ram becomes fatigued. If the fatigue reaches 100, you stop for 15 seconds. If you see your ram reaching his fatigue limit, run past a barrel of apples - it removes the debuff. When you successfully complete that quest, you can do the next one...
Now that you've proven yourself as a capable rider, you can accept the quest to pick up and deliver kegs from a nearby point to the Brewfest main site. You have 4 minutes in which to do this which is plenty, unless you push your ram too hard and he stops from exhaustion! You have to pick up 3 kegs from Kharanos for Alliance, or Razor Hill for Horde the first time you do this. This is a daily quest and the next day you do it you can collect and deliver as many kegs as you can do in 4 minutes. Keeping an eye on your fatigue and passing the apple barrels you should easily be able to get 10 kegs which which will mean 30 tickets.
You can complete this twice each day (every 12 hours).
Mystery Hunts
Take part in the mystery hunt tasks, handed out by and involving s and s.
To be able to see the s, you must become "completely smashed". Once you have targeted the creature, use the [Unknown Item: Wolpertinger Net] to catch it. You need 5 of the animals to complete the quest, which rewards you with [Unknown Item: Wolpertinger's Tankard], an item that contains a non combat pet that is only visible to you and characters that are drunk.
This quest involves travelling to each of the other beer gardens for your faction and chase the s. As you can guess, it also involves getting drunk.
Dark Iron Dwarf Attacks
Don't let your guard down, because those pesky Dark Iron Dwarves are lurking in the bushes, waiting to strike. Every hour on the half hour, they will invade the festivities, and party-goers will have to defend the brew, as the Dark Iron scoundrels try to make off with the kegs. The picture below shows one such attack, as the Dark Iron Dwarves come up through the ground in drilling machines, and the revellers scramble to defend the beer!
When the attack begins, pick up one of the tankards standing on nearby tables. Drink the brew, then throw the empty mug at a Dark Iron Dwarf. If you see a large tankard appear, rush over to it and you will spin around hurling tankards at all the dark iron dwarves.
At the end of the attack, a cog will be left on the ground. Accept the quest it offers (), and hand it in for 10 prize tickets.
Coren Direbrew
New to 2008, players can accept a quest to kill . The starting quest, is obtained from in Kharanos, Dun Morogh, for the Alliance, and from , Durotar, for the Horde.
Players must make their way to Blackrock Depths to take on Coren. During Brewfest, just inside the entrance to Blackrock Depths, players will see 3 level 70 Dark Iron Dwarves. Kill the Dwarves, then use the controls on the ground. A drilling machine will come through the ground and take you to the Grim Guzzler where the boss encounter takes place.
The event is similar to the Headless Horseman event during Hallow's End, because players need a quest to start the encounter. A player may only summmon (start) the event once per day, so a group of 5 players who haven not yet completed the quest can kill the boss 5 times.
It's a simple tank and spank fight, with mobs spawning through the ground while the encounter tanks place.
