History

One of the 6 Horde races: Orcs, Tauren, Undead, Trolls, Blood Elves and upcoming Goblins.

Goblins were originally the slaves of Trolls on their home island of Kezan. The Trolls forced Goblins to mine the kaja'mite ore of mount Kajaro, for use in their ceremonies, but the ore had a strange effect on the small green fellows. The Kaja'mite made them cunning and smart, and soon the overwhelmed the Trolls, claiming Kezan for themselves. The mines beneath Kajaro, their former prison, became their home and they renamed it Undermine.

Armed with their recently-acquired intelligence and their natural greed, the Goblins became shrewd merchants, and Trade Princes rose to profit from the first war between the Horde and Alliance. The Isle of Kezan became the main hub for commerce in Azeroth.

During the second war, one Trade Prince allied himself with the Horde and lent them his fleets. However, after the Horde were defeated, the Goblins decided it would be more profitable if they remained neutral and trade with both the Horde and Alliance.

Allegiance with the Horde

After the Cataclysm struck Azeroth, the Goblins were forced to flee their home. Trade Princes looking to make money from the tragedy offered to sail the fleeing race to safety in return for great sums of gold but actually sold them into slavery. While being shipped to their new owners, the slave transport ships got caught in crossfire between Alliance ships and a solitary Horde one.

Washed up on the shore of the Lost Isles, the Goblins found the Alliance to be hostile. Unknown events have turned the Alliance against the Goblins, who turn to the Horde.

Speculation on Breaking With the Alliance

It's possible that the Alliance was the one who was buying the Goblin slaves, seeking to force them into the service. However, the King of Stormwind, Varian Wrynn, is unlikely to pursue that course of action due to his previous experiences as a Horde slave. He may have demanded the Goblins cease trade with the Horde or face extermination.

There's a rumour that the lone Horde ship that the slave ships encountered carried none other than Thrall. Were the washed-up Goblins protecting the Horde leader from Alliance forces?

The Goblins as a Playable Race

The starting area is the Lost Isles situated off the coast of Kalimdor.

Undermine is the Goblin home city, although it is not currently confirmed to be featured in WoW.

Their mount is a small motorised vehicle.

The Goblins will probably speak any languages through their trade with all races.
