Tactics
There are two phases in this encounter. You fight the Vrykul boss in his humanoid form. After death, second phase kicks in ... he is resurrected as Undead and gains a shadow version of his physical abilities.
Phase 1
It is recommended to tank Ingvar the Plunderer on the edge of the circle where he stands. Turning him around so his back faces the group. Ingvar has a melee swing and a cleave. Melee (DPS) should stand on his back. Casters should be at max distance, including healers. Melee DPS should move away when Ingvar casts Smash. It can one-shot anyone who is not a tank causing up to 6398 Physical damage. Staggering Roar is an area of effect ability that can't be outranged. You can use the pillars to hide, however. Keep the tank healed at max at all time in order to survive the Smash ability.
Phase 2
This phase starts when Ingvar dies. A Val'kyr spawns high in the air and casts resurrection on Ingvar. You will have approximately 20 seconds to heal yourself to max health before he resumes the fight. The Val'kyr will say:
"Ingvar, your pathetic failure will serve as a warning to all ... you are dead. Arise, and carry out the Master's will!"
Ingvar will be raised and cursed to live as an Undead. He will begin casting Dreadful Roar. It silences everyone in the party and inflicts approximately 1930-4076 Shadow damage. Melee swing does the same damage as earlier, but now there is a critical chance he may hit you for 4135 Physical damage. In this new cursed body he casts Dark Smash (which inflicts 1715-2298 Shadow damage). It can be resisted. Priests should cast shadow buff; or a Paladin should turn on shadow aura; or a Death Knight can cast Anti-Magic shield. You can absorb up to 1036-1782 of the total Shadow damage.
