The Isle of Quel'Danas, also known as Sunwell Isle, became available in patch 2.4, in late March 2008.

About the Isle of Quel'Danas

The island, located north of Silvermoon City, will be the site of two new instances - Magister's Terrace, a 5 man instance for level 70s who are geared for Karazhan entry, available in normal or Heroic mode, and Sunwell Plateau, a 25 man raid for players who are in the best armor from the game currently, eg. loot from the Black Temple.

There will also be a new faction on the Isle of Quel'Danas, the Shattered Sun Offensive. They will provide quests that raise players' reputation with them, allowing progression for the whole realm on the Isle of Quel'Danas, not unlike the Ahn Qiraj war effort event before TBC was released.

The island is currently being powered by a number of captured Naaru, held inside the Sunwell Plateau.

Transport

To reach the Isle of Quel'Danas, players will take a flight from the Hatchet Hills flight patch in the Ghostlands, and a teleportation system is being considered. It is likely that a reputation gain with the Shattered Sun Offensive will allow transport by ship.

History

During the third war, Prince Arthas brought the Scourge to Quel'Thalas and his march of undeads can still be seen as the "Tainted Scar". They reached through the High elven kingdom, raping the lands in their way, until they reached the Sunwell, where he corrupted it and used it's powers to resurrect Kel'Thuzad.

In Blizzard's original mappings of WoW (the MMORPG), much of current Eastern Plaguelands was planned to be Quel'Thalas and the Isle of Quel'Danas was located about where the Burning Crusade version of Quel'Thalas is now.

In the patch, we see a new Island on the world map just above current Quel'Thalas.
